I was listening to a song recently and these words jumped out at me “For we’ve settled the question, we’ve made our choice”. The more I ponder on the song, the more I realize that the writers of the song were very intentional about those words. My thoughts… when you answer a question, there’s room for counter answers and further discussions but when you ‘settle’ a question, you have closed the chapter on further answers and discussions.

The song talks about how despite what seems to be happening around the world, God always has a people. The song has become quite a comfort for us that no matter the direction of the world, no matter how in the minority we think we are, God always has a people and that we are not alone. It is similar to the time when the Prophet Elijah thought that he was the only servant of God left, and God replied to him;

“Yet, I have reserved 7000 in Isreal, all whose knees have not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him” 1 Kings 19:18.

In the world today, there are many Baal’s that come in all forms and shapes, preventing us from settling the question about where we stand. Generally, Baal is anything that takes the place of God in your life. This may sound vague as we may say we don’t have any idols that we bow down to. But maybe we do, not just in a physical form. They come in things we are unwilling to give up, things that we make excuses for, and when we make clear bold lines thin and cross them.

To check yourself, here’s a “check o meter” question I got asked recently. What ‘CONSUMES’ most of your thoughts during your free time?

Notice the word consumes? If a particular thought, need, desire, want or craving takes up more than 80% of your free time thoughts, you may just be on the verge of bowing down to Baal.

If you must journey to Alpha, God has to be first, He has to be our destination set and target locked. Just like a GPS map, no matter how many wrong turns you take, you will always hear that voice “recalculating” always trying to take you back to your locked destination.

To ‘settle’ my question, I breathe God, I love God, I think God, I live God, I walk God, I talk God, I work God, I act God, then I show God. (Ref: Matthew 22:37-39)

Will we make mistakes? yes, we will, but just like the GPS, we always have that voice recalculating and pointing us back to Alpha.

Note to Self – It is not Perfection but Commitment that makes us a part of the 7000.

    The 7000! Sounds like an exclusive club to belong too and indeed it is! We are reminded in many ways from God’s word, that those who truly belong to the Lord are in the minority. It should greatly challenge us is that in a nation of probably over 2 million people (taking a reference from the earliest census ever conducted of the children of Israel) God was saying he had only 7000 who had submitted themselves to the idolatry of the times. It is noteworthy that Baal worship had become enshrined in the very seat of power in Israel at the time. It was sponsored from the seat of power, the king and queen.

    The idols of age are all over the place again today. It would appear that the days are coming when true Christians will be required to either bow the knee or be crushed by the majority. The question is, when that happens, will I be a part of God’s remnant? Will you?

    Help me Lord to be among the 7000 that have not bowed to or kiss Baal of the 21st century.
    Thank you my Pastors. God bless your ministry.
