Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6‭-‬7 NLT

A few years back, we embarked on a journey to attend a wedding in the eastern part of Nigeria. None of us knew the way there, we knew our starting point and our destination and hoped that google maps(g-maps) knew the way.

Most of us are not too different, we know our start point in life and have the desired picture of what the endpoint should look like. However, what lies between could sometimes be a little hazy, so we worry or become anxious. The thought of what lies ahead can be unnerving especially at the key stages of our lives when we transition through phases like finishing university and being tossed or launched into the big wide world. I remember my transition clearly, I was a bit clueless as I experienced many firsts – first resume/CV write up, first interview, first rejection, the first time I wasn’t sure what will come next because this was beyond writing an exam, getting promoted to the next class and having someone pay your fees. In this new territory, the buck starts and ends with you ideally and then top it off with a system that seems to be working against you.

To get to the wedding destination, we plotted g-maps and began to drive.

We make progress in life by moving, you can not make progress by just sitting, wondering, waiting and worrying. Any movement takes you closer to your destination, even wrong moves may set you back a bit but you can always recalculate and recalibrate. A move could be preparing your resume, attending job interviews, taking courses, learning a new skill, starting a business or doing an internship.

We hit a block, g-maps said turn right, right was a bank, not a road.  We were confused, we could not go right even though g-maps said so. We kept driving straight on, g-maps recalculated.

While moving, you will encounter roadblocks, broken promises, disappointing turn of events, missed timelines. You may even wonder if you heard from God before making that move. But have you stopped to consider that God can make something beautiful out of even a wrong move? So don’t beat yourself up, be like g-maps, recalculate and keep moving

And the night got dark and darker, we stopped to find a place to relax and refresh.

Life is not a sprint, it could be a relay where you stop now and then to give the baton to a better version of yourself to run the next lap of the race. At those stops, you find time to relax because the journey ahead is long and refresh because your current version needs some upgrading

In the morning, we hit the road again.
No matter how many times and places you stop, always hit the road again when morning comes. Don’t give up on trying again.

We got to our destination after many hours, we didn’t get there by contemplating the way, we got there by getting into the car and moving.

We enjoyed the sights and sounds along the way, shared some good laughs, ate the local delicacies along the way, disagreed and agreed. Enjoying the journey is as important as the destination itself, so decide to find joy in every moment of your life. Don’t be too obsessed about ‘there‘, the process and places that you go through are part of the package.

Do not worry about your life, God has everything figured out.

I know this too well!

We love to hear from you so please share your thoughts on the post with us and tell a friend.

Excellent write up! In getting THERE, I must make a move. Sitting down in one place isn’t the best. The 4 lepers in the bible decided to make a move instead of sitting down one place, and they eventually got THERE!
Thank you so much my Pastors. God bless you real good and have a lovely weekend ahead.

My take home from this post is to ‘Keep moving’ no matter the setbacks on the journey.

    Thank you Sir/Ma..

    Very inspiring I must confess.
Just keep moving sometimes you have it all planned and you realize it’s not working that way, don’t stop just keep moving.
You make progress in life by just keep moving .
You definitely will arrive at your destination but not your time but God’s time. No wonder David said satisfy me early in life while on his journey of life.

Thank you pastor for this post

Thank you so much for this Sir/Ma. My best part of the read was that God can make something beautiful out of one’s mistake and my take home is that being joyful in every situation is something I have to decide to do

This post will rank as one of my favorites!

Lately I have been musing about this obsession I have long had about wanting God to specifically tell me what the next step is. You know how the preacher teaches you to wait on God until he shows you the way to take. Perhaps we misunderstood what the prophet said when he said “you will hear a voice behind you saying this is the way…”. I do believe that God speaks, but I believe more today than ever that God intended life to be an adventure, and in an adventure you don’t always know what’s coming next. What is certain is that there’ll be treasures unearthed as well as perils that we will either escape or get hurt by. Whatever the case, may we just enjoy the adventure of life and not worry so much about “there” wherever “there” is. The real fun is in the journey.

The day Google maps dealt with me and my wife ehn, we ended up at a bridge still under construction. Story for another day 😂

Thanks for this, it’s better to keep moving than remaining stagnant. Refresh, upgrade, then move again. Nice one
