The Showcase

Like many girls, my dream guy had to be tall, dark and ‘fine’. The word ‘fine’ is rarely used these days, instead, we lean more toward handsome when describing a dream man. Fineness in this context is attributed to the physical attributes of the person, and just like beauty, it is in the eyes of the beholder so it could be subjective.

When God referred to Job as the finest man on earth, I knew this was not physical but a statement of his person and personality. A few words were provided to explain why Job was referred to as fine, that list should be every believer’s list to go by. Like it was a parade of some sort, “the Lord asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless—a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil.” Job 1:8 NLT

I will like to attempt to unpack those four qualities:

1. Blameless – or without blame, means that if put before a jury, nothing should be found on you. Not because you have not done wrong but because when you fall, you run to the father with genuine remorse, obtain mercy for sins committed and grace to sin no more.

2. Complete integrity – your yay is yay and your nay is nay, it is that simple. You are honest in your dealings. You do not consciously seek to misrepresent information. You can be trusted and your word is your bond.

3. Fears God – You walk in the awareness that God sees your every move and you are too obsessed to please Him that you do what He says. Your mantra is ‘what will Jesus do’ and this is not just an inscription on a wristband or a fancy question you ask yourself with no action to back it up. It is your life and how you respond to life.

4. Stays away from evil – like Joseph, you flee even the appearance of evil. You don’t give room for evil, you nip it in the bud.

Becoming more like Jesus is the goal, these qualities describe the way Jesus lived on earth. We have the Holy Spirit that helps us stay true to the way God desires us to live.

Our lives are God’s showcase on the earth,

Noah was on display, he made the cut…
Job was on display, he made the cut…
Enoch was on display, he made the cut…

Now you are on display, will you make the cut?

  1. …and you got your specifications for the Husband material (LOL). You just described a summary of God’s ideal child in this post. What did I take from this? At the end of everyday, I’ve got to ask myself, did “I live up to God’s standards today”? Sounds like the phrasing of a good self-reflection question on a routine basis.
